WVU Extends Mask Mandate to All Indoor Campus Buildings and Facilities

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of West Virginia has updated its campus mask mandate.

From Monday, September 13, all persons will be required to wear a mask indoors in all buildings and facilities of the WVU system. This mandate is for all people, regardless of their vaccination status, and will be in place until October 6, when public health conditions will be reassessed.

“While positive cases and quarantine instances involving WVU employees and students remain at manageable levels, the University is proactively making this decision due to the recent significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Virginia- Westerners, including the increase in hospitalization cases across the state. ”The university announced Friday.

Anyone entering campus buildings or facilities must wear a mask properly over the nose and stay indoors, according to the new guidelines.

In personal offices, in small gatherings of 10 people or less on floors and rooms of residences, in personal vehicles, when eating or drinking, or during fitness activities, wearing a mask it’s not mandatory.

Since this is primarily an outdoor event, this mask requirement does not include areas of the Milan Puskar stadium (i.e. restrooms, suites, press stand) for the moment. However, WVU continues to strongly encourage the wearing of masks in the Hall of Traditions, suites, washrooms or other interior spaces of the stadium.

This requirement will remain in place until October 6 or until the University determines that further guidance is warranted based on ongoing monitoring of factors, including state COVID-19 data, from the locality and campus, WVU said in a press release.

The University said masks continued to be mandatory on PRT and WVU buses until Jan. 18, 2022, under federal guidelines from the Transportation safety administration. WVU transport expects all passengers – regardless of their immunization status – to comply with this requirement when traveling on WVU transport.
