CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Pregnancy Center of the Coastal Bend is hosting a Christmas diaper giveaway, which executive director Jana Pinson says is unusual for the organization.
“We usually do diaper drives,” she said.
The center invites new parents to come visit its new office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at 13723 Northwest Blvd. suite 110.
“We’ve had such an amazing response on Facebook and we’re expecting a lot of people,” she said.
Staff will discuss their first aid and organize parenting classes.
Those who visit the facility – which opened in October – will receive a free box of diapers.
“At Christmas it’s tough on parents,” Pinson said. “They’re trying to get toys and they’re trying to get food and they’re trying to pay for diapers. So we hope that will be a blessing for our families in Coastal Bend.”
The grand prize draw winner will win a box of diapers each month for one year.
“People asked and said, ‘Do I need documents? “Pinson said.” No, we’re going to ask a few questions to see what your parenting needs are. “
She said all of their services – including pregnancy tests and ultrasounds – are free.
“We have so many daughters who have been single mothers or mothers in need, who have traveled – sometimes up to 40 miles – to get to our place and to the center of Corpus.”
Those who attend parenting class regularly can receive up to two dozen diapers each week, as well as four outfits for their child.
She said they also reach out to fathers who are in need.
Pinson said that in the next two years, the Pregnancy Center of the Coastal Bend hopes to open another location on Ennis Joslin near Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
