On Sunday September 5, 2021, the Texarkana Council # 1003 of the Knights of Columbus presented a check in the amount of $ 28,500 to 1st Choice Pregnancy Resource Center to help with expenses associated with their new mobile unit, “Leah”. This donation will allow the Center to purchase the ultrasound machine that it will use on the unit. Members of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart were able to visit “Leah” after services on the same day. Mike McInturff, a Knights of Columbus member heavily involved in this project said, “The Knights are happy to help with this cause. We have stood up for, and always will stand up for, unborn children. ”

Kristie Wright, Executive Director of 1st Choice, explained that the mobile unit will allow the Center to provide services to the more rural areas of our region. “If you don’t have a car and live in DeKalb, Texarkana might as well be Dallas,” she said. Leah, which was named after the daughter of an anonymous donor, is a fully equipped medical unit that will enable 1st Choice to offer pregnancy tests, peer counseling and ultrasounds, all free of charge, throughout the region. “It was a vision that our board of directors formulated in 2018 and it is now a reality. We are grateful to the many groups and individuals who made this dream a reality, ”said Wright. 1st Choice is a Christian organization supported by many faiths, and people from a variety of faith backgrounds have contributed to the fundraising efforts for the mobile unit. Wright commented, “At a time when there seems to be division everywhere, we are blessed to see so many people coming together and enabling us to serve women (and men) facing unplanned pregnancy. We are confident that “Leah” will save and change lives in our region. ”
