Diaper Run to Benefit Pahrump’s First Choice Pregnancy Center

First Choice Pregnancy Center is just one of many non-profit organizations in the Pahrump Valley and its services make a difference in the lives of area residents every day. With free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, advice and more, First Choice provides an assortment of supports for both those carrying a child and existing families.

One of First Choice’s core missions is to make sure parents have the supplies they need to properly care for their baby, and baby diapers and wipes are an important part of that mission. In an effort to collect as many diapers and wipes as possible, the center holds its annual Diaper Race each year, a poker run-style family fundraiser that almost anyone can get involved in. Inflation has recently pushed prices up forever. higher and coupled with the still lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no doubt that right now the need is great.

“In 2009, J Mar Customs and a group of friends got together to create a poker run benefit event that would primarily result in a large stockpile of baby diapers and wipes for a local community organization named First Choice Pregnancy Center. “, explains the website of the event. the story of the Diaper Run. “Their efforts culminated in the Diaper Run, which is now in its 14th year and doing well.

“Every year, the resulting stock is significant. Thousands of diapers and several thousand baby wipes are collected and then distributed to the people (babies) who need them most over the coming year. “The Diaper Run event itself is a great time… [it] has become a real local event. And of course everyone is welcome, no matter if you ride two wheels, three wheels, four wheels or more!

The 14th annual diaper race will take place in September and the cost is just $20 per rider, plus a pack of diapers. For passengers, the cost is $15 plus a pack of unscented baby wipes. Registration includes lunch, which will be served at the end of the poker run. Those who just prefer to grab a bite instead of running can join lunch for $5 per person. In addition to the ride and the food, there will also be raffles, prizes and entertainment.

First Choice is looking for very specific items this year, with the event website explaining, “Each Diaper Run brings different needs.” Right now the center has an abundance of certain diaper sizes in their supplies, so First Choice Pregnancy is focusing on the two sizes they need the most for the 2022 event. donations of size 5 and 6 diapers.”

It’s also important that all baby wipes be unscented, as the scented varieties can cause irritation in some children.

The 14th Annual Diaper Race is scheduled for Saturday, September 10. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and last bikes must be on the course by 10:30 a.m. The course begins at Parker’s Kawasaki, 1201 S. Highway 160, and ends at Lisa Bond Real Estate, 3130 S. Highway 160 .
