RAPID CITY, SD – A group reunited at Old Storybook Island Saturday morning to sustain life. Held the day before Mother’s Day, the Walk for Life was sponsored by the Black Hills Pregnancy Center.
The center is a nonprofit organization that provides services to women and men involved in unexpected pregnancies. A few of the services include pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and access to other resources.
The pregnancy center hosted an in-person and virtual 5K in an effort to raise $25,000.
Before the 5K began, several speakers discussed the importance of pregnancy crisis centers, and a few guests shared their own stories of unplanned pregnancies. pregnancies.
“A lot of people… they just don’t have support, or they don’t have food, or money for electricity or anything. So they’re very distressed, and so we’re giving them support, in that we’re connected to the other agencies, and we refer to the other agencies in town for the food bank, or counseling, or whatever they might need,” said Monica Tanner, office manager.
Currently around $12,000 of the $25,000 has been raised – but there is still time to donate via July 1.
