RAPID CITY, SD – The Black Hills Pregnancy Center is a welcoming place to go, and often the first stop for women or couples when they find out they’re pregnant.

Clients are offered private and free care that can include a pregnancy test, ultrasound, mentoring programs, and getting the resources they need to feel more comfortable delivering a child.
Monica Tanner, Office Manager at Black Hills Pregnancy Center, says, “We’re just trying to connect them within the community, so we’re working with the different agencies to help them be successful in pregnancy and parenting.”
Customers can earn baby dollars for shopping at the Baby Shop, which is full of new items donated by the community.
Classes on labor and delivery, breastfeeding and more prepare parents for living with a newborn baby and beyond. Certified nurses are available to answer questions while clients wait to see their doctor. Nurses (who are volunteers) can also do ultrasound scans.
Tanner says, “We had a couple who had never had a baby before, and they called and said, ‘Can we take classes? So we bought some dolls so we could help them change the diapers and how to hold the baby how to burp the baby and both [came in] and they were very grateful.
The Centre’s services are useful for those who are uninsured. Customers receive a “baby starter kit” that includes nine items when they come in for services.
“We have a great labor and delivery class and one of our clients… walked in and I just let him watch a few [videos] because she was going to give birth soon and she came in the next day and she said “I’m so glad you let me watch the rest of these videos because it really helped me a lot”.
The pregnancy center is funded by donations, like the Baby Bottle Boomerang program, where people fill a plastic bottle with change that is placed at various businesses and events.
The Pregnancy Center will host the Ladies Tea with a Purpose fundraising event this Sunday at the Alex Johnson Hotel; Click here for more information.
